On the morning of 31 March 2025, the Nauru Embassy in China held an opening ceremony in Beijing. The details are as follows:
Who attended: Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu and Nauru Foreign Minister Angmin, who made a special visit to China, jointly attended and delivered speeches. Nauru’s Ambassador to China Jeremiah presided over the opening ceremony, which was attended by more than 100 people, including diplomatic envoys from Pacific island countries, business leaders and students studying in China.
Ceremony: The Nauru Embassy in China officially opened with the Nauru flag rising at the diplomatic apartment outside the Jianguo Gate in Beijing.
Significance: The official opening of the Nauru Embassy in China has established another bridge connecting the two countries, opened a new window for mutual understanding between the two peoples, and built a new bond of mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between the two countries.
On January 24, 2024, China and Nauru resumed diplomatic relations on the basis of the One-China principle, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations. Since the resumption of diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have flourished and achieved fruitful results. For example, President Adiang paid a successful state visit to China. Nauru will host the Micronesia Games for the first time in 2026, and China is building a stadium for Nauru. Chinese doctors offered free TCM clinics in Nauru. There are 17 Nauruan students studying in Chinese universities.
Follow-up outlook: Nauru Foreign Minister Angmin said that Nauru’s position of adhering to the One-China principle will not waver in the least, and looks forward to continuing to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields and pushing bilateral relations to a new level.
